CHENANGO – As the Chenango County Hazard Response Team moves to update its plan, it has reached out to members of the public for feedback.

According to Chenango County Planning Department Director Shane Butler, officials are looking for residents with experience with hazards including flooding, severe storms, winter storms, and tornados.

“We’re trying to come up with action items on how we can make Chenango County more resilient to natural disasters and disease outbreaks,” said Butler. “It really is more about natural hazards, but obviously disease outbreak is something we need to keep an eye on so we have included it.”

Butler said if people have other disaster plan suggestions, they can email him at shaneb@co.chenango.ny.us with that information.

“Please take our Citizen Survey so your input can be incorporated into the Countywide Hazard Mitigation Plan,” said Butler. “As of today we only have 140 responses and we'd like more.”

“Your input will help us develop initiatives to prepare Chenango County residents for future weather events, make our infrastructure more resilient, and allow us to apply for needed funding to implement these programs.”
