Chobani thanks local community during holiday season
NORWICH – In continued appreciation of its hometown, especially during this challenging year, Chobani hosted its 6th Annual Community Giveaway at the Chenango County Fairgrounds on Dec. 5.
The drive-thru-only event requested all attendees wear masks and handed out free yogurt to hundreds of residents.
“For the past six years, Chobani has sought to thank the local community we call home by handing out free cases of yogurt at the end of the Parade of Lights in Norwich. However this year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Parade of Lights was cancelled,” Chobani Community Engagement Manger Don Brown explained.
“We decided to instead to provide a safe and socially distanced environment by creating a drive-thru event at the Fairgrounds. The goal was to share our delicious and nutritious foods with our neighbors, thanking them for their support and adhering to our mission to provide better food for more people.”
More than 15 volunteers from Chobani worked at the event, setting up, unloading yogurt and assisting with traffic flow. More than 500 vehicles stopped at the Chobani trailer during the two hour event.
“With all the area events cancelled or virtual this year, we felt the need to share with the community was greater than ever this year,” said Brown.
Throughout the country, Chobani has donated nearly seven million products to help those in need, providing free food to food banks, hospitals, schools, and shelters.
“But we always want to support the communities we call home – including the greater Central New York region where we started our journey. Giving back is part of the Chobani way, and we were thrilled to continue our yearly tradition of donating products during the holiday season in a manner that was safe for all to enjoy,” said Brown.
Chobani thanked the community for the support.
“We want to thank Mary Weidman at the Chenango County Fairgrounds, Isaiah Sutton at the Chenango County Health Department and Deputy Chief Scott Burlison of the Norwich Police Department in particular for all of their wonderful support in helping making this event a reality,” said Brown.
