NORWICH – A family in Norwich is getting a new roof for free this week, and it was made possible thanks to a partnership between The Impact Project and Montgomery and Hunt Construction.

According to The Impact Project Executive Director Jim Willard III, the first project of 2021 was located right in the City of Norwich, but due to the roof’s poor condition and slant it was too dangerous to have volunteers do it.

“We decided to partner with professionals on this project, we couldn’t send volunteers up there with the roof in that kind of condition,” said Willard. “The roof was so rotted that you could take a hammer to it and you would pass right through.”

“This was the worst roof we’ve ever worked on, and I don’t take any pride in saying that.”

Willard said when the Thompson family reached out and described what was going on at home, The Impact Project knew this was a job that couldn’t wait. He said fortunately Montgomery and Hunt Construction was willing to step up and partner with The Impact Project to make the project happen.

“Their roof was literally collapsing on top of them, and I couldn’t even begin to imagine the stress that goes along with that especially with this recent snowstorm,” he said. “We’ve got two facets to our organization, which is to work with volunteers and bring in paid local contractors to assist us.”
