NORWICH – Last Thursday the volunteers for Helping Hands Norwich celebrated a year of serving individuals with another giveback night.
According to Helping Hands Norwich Executive Director Lorri Race, Helping Hands is an organization that’s focused on community helping community. Race said there are no qualifications needed for attendees, and there are a wide variety of donations available for those who need them.
Race said the giveback nights occur every third Thursday of each month, and that for this past event the Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Chobani, Tops, the Norwich Police Department, the Norwich Family YMCA, and many others helped to make the night a success with their support.
“Thank you to everyone who made our first 2021 giveaway a success,” said Race. “We made new friends and were blessed with new volunteers.”
“Thank you to the Emmanuel Episcopal Church for the pork dinners, and to Chobani for staying and helping us out!”
She said a number of items were available at Thursday night’s event including Chobani yogurt, milk, bread, noodles, spaghetti sauce, masks, cleaning items, pet food, homemade hats, scarves and mittens.
Norwich Family YMCA Executive Director Jamey Mullen also spoke about the event and said more than 125 people attended.
“Happy Anniversary to all of the wonderful volunteers of Helping Hands Norwich as you celebrate your one year of service in the greater Norwich area,” said Mullen. “Never in a million years did anyone imagine what we would encounter in year one: the need, the compassion, the support, the friendships and more importantly the love for our community and our residents, all of our residents.”
“Thank you to the many volunteers who committed their time this evening, the donors who donated product and funds to support this amazing work.”
