S-E Girls squeak out 38-34 win over Canastota

CANASTOTA – It was a repeat performance for the Sherburne-Earlville varsity girls basketball team on Wednesday night as they dispatched the home Canastota Red Raiders. Tessa Cole once again had a big night on offense as she scored 26 of her team’s 38 points in the game.

Sherburne-Earlville got off to a hot start on offense to start the game with their offensive motor in Tessa Cole going off for 13 points of offense in the first quarter of play. But S-E played a full quarter of basketball in the process; holding the host Red Raiders to a single point in the period.

However, as the second stanza continued to be an abundance of great defense for S-E as they held their opponent to two points in the period, it was much less fruitful for the Marauder offense as they scored four points in the second eight minutes of play.

The visiting Marauders took a comfortable 17-3 lead into the break, and with their defense controlling every Canastota offensive possession, it would be a tall task for the Red Raiders to resolve.

The final 16 minutes proved to be the best offensive attack for Canastota in the ballgame as they outscored S-E 31-21 in the half. The Red Raider’s Jessica Evans scored 13 of her 15 points all in the second half, while S-E’s Cole would be equal to the task as she scored 13 more points in the third and fourth quarters, as S-E hung onto win 38-34 over Canastota.
