NORWICH – After taking on STAC opponents in Maine-Endwell, Susquehanna Valley and Union-Endicott just the night before, the Norwich Purple Tornado wrestlers hit the mat again, this time taking on fellow Chenango County foe Oxford-Greene on senior night.
Senior Night is always special for parents and student-athletes alike, however for Norwich’s Andrew Brown it was doubly special as he would reach the milestone of winning his 100th match of his varsity wrestling career.
Prior to the match, Norwich head coach Bob Hagenbuch honored the team’s four seniors; Andrew Brown, Joey Marvin, Marshall Morris and Tyler Rice for their accomplishments and contributions to the Norwich wrestling program.
In the 118 weight class, O-G’s Kad’n Wakefield won by fall over Norwich’s Regan Roach in 2:56. Roach would later pick up his first varsity win by defeating Oxford-Greene’s Vicky Fleury in a 7-3 decision.

“Andrew getting his 100 wins is pretty special” said Norwich Head Coach Bob Hagenbuch.
Upon reaching the major milestone Brown said, “Coach Hagenbuch told me we were going to do it and we did it…It feels good that we finally got a chance to wrestle. We didn’t think we were going to get any season this year.”
Brown added saying “I have to thank my family, Coach Hagenbuch, Coach Marvin and my practice partners”
But, Brown wouldn’t just stop at 100 wins for his varsity career, as he picked-up another win over Oxford-Greene’s Derek Renfer. Brown would defeat Renfer by pin in 4:28 for his 101st win of his career.
In the 138 weight class, Norwich’s Nate Murphy would defeat O-G’s Christian Bowers by a 9-1 major decision. In the 145 weight class, Norwich’s Brady Smith defeated O-G’s Damien Hitt in a 3-0 decision. Oxford-Greene’s Hitt defeated Norwich’s Marshall Morris by fall in the 152 weight class. Norwich’s Ashton Jenkins would pick up a string three of wins in the 160 weight class, first by defeating O-G’s Hogan Ludolph by a 5-1 decision, then defeating O-G’s Abram Parsons by pin in 1:11, and finally capping off the night by defeating Oxford-Greene’s Lyric Libby in a 10-4 decision.
In the 172 weight class, O-G’s Hunter Page defeated the Purple Tornado’s Jacob Hagenbuch by fall in 2:21. Oxford-Greene’s Hogan Ludolph would also take down Hagenbuch by fall in 1:15.

Norwich’s Braden Reid would also win his first varsity match by defeating O-G’s Abram Parsons by fall in 5:26.
Norwich’s Robert McIntyre would later take on NHS teammate Garrett Powers in the 215 weight class, McIntyre would win by technical fall.
“The guys wrestled good, they were just starting to come along, they’re looking good and putting everything together and then the season ends,” said Norwich Head Coach Bob Hagenbuch.
But despite the quick season, Hagenbuch was especially glad his athletes had a chance to compete adding, “We’re just thankful that we got a season in and thankful the seniors had a season….it was a great season and we’re looking forward to next year.”
