SAUQUOIT – Playing with just one senior, Sherburne-Earlville's varsity boys' basketball team is growing up in a hurry during this truncated 2021 winter sports season.

The Marauders evened their record Wednesday night at Sauquoit Valley pulling away in the fourth quarter for a 53-44 victory.

The win evened S-E's season mark at 4-4, and the victory also wiped away the memory of a 25-point setback to Cooperstown the previous night.

"It was definitely nice for the kids since they got to play again right away, and forget about what happened (Tuesday)," said Sherburne-Earlville coach Kevin Vibbard. "From a coaching aspect, I would've liked to have had a practice to work on things we didn't do well. But the kids did respond tonight."

S-E clung to a 35-32 lead heading into the final quarter, but received a big lift from sophomore Jack Rodman.

Rodman scored eight of his 10 points over the final eight minutes, while Taylor Gryzmkowski and Preston Eaves added clutch three balls to stretch the final margin to nine points.

"Jack really helped us control the inside in the fourth quarter," Vibbard said. "When he wasn't scoring, he was playing the high post. We fed him in the high post, and he made good passes and good decisions."
