Lady Marauders defeat New York Mills in season finale

NEW YORK MILLS – In a year of that has been highlighted by waiting for approval to play and at times some intermittent turbulence, the Sherburne-Earlville Marauders varsity girls basketball team capped off their 2021 basketball season with a 71-40 win over Section III foe New York Mills.

Breaking free of a recent losing streak, Sherburne-Earlville’s offense got going in a hurry in their last game of the season, putting up 43 points in the opening half, as offensive production came from nearly every corner of the S-E roster. The quartet of Tessa Cole, Alex Kober, Hanna Todd-Rogers and Trinity Thornton combined to score 28 points of their team’s points in the first half.

With the Marauder offense rolling like a steamroller, their defensive pressure held New York Mills to 13 first half points. As a team- the Marauders recorded 20 steals in the game—Chesnee Miller led the team in steals with five, Madison VanAlthuis and Tessa Cole each recorded four steals.

Sherburne-Earlville kept up their all-around play in the final 16 minutes of play as they cruised to a dominant victory over New York Mills.

Tessa Cole led S-E in scoring with 20 points and seven assists, Alex Kober scored 14, Hanna Todd-Rogers and Trinity Thornton each added in 10 markets of their own. With Todd-Rogers leading the team in boards with eight.

Jemma Jordan led New York Mills in scoring with 23 points.
