NHS Girls’ Swimming sink Yellowjackets
NORWICH – The Norwich girls’ varsity swim team was up to their usual hijinks on Friday March 19th, as the Purple Tornado took to the pool in force defeating their rival the Oneonta Yellowjackets 104-78.
The Purple Tornado received their first win on the evening in the 200 Yard Medley Relay with the quartet of Abigail Hansen, Kaitlyn Blaisure, Nina Kman, and Angela Carlson timing 2:02.53.
Mikayla Sastri placed second in the 200 yard freestyle in a 2:23.35. Sastri, would finish less than a second off of Oneonta’s Molly Forbes who finished first in the event.
Abigail Hansen added to Norwich’s win total on the night with a 2:35.09 finish in the 200 yard Individual Medley along with a 500 yard freestyle victory timing 6:16.33. Norwich’s Kaitlyn Blaisure would record additional wins for NHS on the night as she timed 25.91 in the 50 yard freestyle and 1:08.32 in the 100 yard Backstroke.
In the 100 yard freestyle, Angela Carlson posted a second place finish in a time of 1:00.32. Megan Funke paced the Tornado to a second place finish in the 100 yard Breaststroke with a time of 1:38.93.
Norwich’s team of Eva Blenis, Mikayla Sastri, Tannner Olds and Regan Finnnegan won the 200 yard freestyle relay with a time of 2:04.51- additionally the Tornado won the 400 yard freestyle relay in 4:11.79 with the squad of Abigail Hansen, Nina Kman, Angela Carlson and Kaitlyn Blaisure to round out the night of competition for Norwich.
The Tornado swimmers (2-0) are back in action on Friday March 26th when they take on the Black Knights of Windsor with the meet scheduled to start at 5:30pm.
