UV-G-MU erupts with big second half to top Bobcats
NEW BERLIN – Spotting Bainbridge-Guilford a three-goal lead, Unadilla Valley-GMU's boys' soccer team exploded for six unanswered goals in a 6-3 win over the Bobcats on Saturday.
Ryan Porter scored his second goal of the game for B-G just 2:30 into the second half for the three-goal lead before UV-G-MU turned up the offense.
Devon Fairchild ignited the UV-GMU attack tallying the first of his three goals at the seven-minute mark of the second.
Over the next seven minutes, Fairchild netted his second goal, while Drew Emrich tied the game running down a through ball, and beating the B-G keeper one-on-one.
"We showed a lot of pride coming back from being down 3-0," said UV-G-MU coach Matt Osborne. "Devon started the scoring, and we just kept the pressure on their defense."
Thirteen minutes after UV tied the game, Zan SanSoucie scored the go-ahead goal gathering a Devon Fairchild shot that rebounded off the crossbar.
UV-GMU freshman Connor Edgett added his first varsity goal with the assist coming from Gavin Bonczkowski.
"We switched up our defense a little, and took away their attack in the second half," Osborne said. "I am proud of the effort, especially in the second half."

Unatego wins back-and-forth battle with Trojans
GREENE - Greene put forth a much better overall performance on Friday, but the Unatego Spartans spoiled the senior night recognition ceremonies topping the Trojans in five games, 25-7, 14-25, 25-12, 16-25, 25-12.
"Unatego took an aggressive lead in the first set and was able to keep that lead with dominant serving," said Greene coach Shelbe Furman. "We switched roles with our own strong serving paired with some well placed attacks to take the second set. The back and forth continued for the third and fourth set, but in the end, Unatego finished on top."
Lyllian Belcourt and Emily Winchester teamed up for 19 combined aces to spark the Spartans to victory.
Shelby Holt had a fine all-around effort for Greene racking up 10 aces, 3 kills, 4 assists, and 2 digs.
Holt, along with Mackenzie Ingraham and Wren Wells, were the three Greene seniors honored before the match.
Wells led Greene's front-line hitters with four kills and three stuff blocks.
Greene faces Sidney Monday, March 29.

GREENE - Delhi picked up big momentum late in the first half scoring a pair of goals en route to a 3-0 shutout win at Greene on Saturday.
Abbie Leahy broke the scoreless tie with 9:35 left in the opening half tallying unassisted.
But the back-breaker for the Trojans (0-2) occurred when it appeared it would head into halftime down a single goal.
Leahy scored with 3.5 seconds left in the half, with Eleana Wagner delivering the key assist.
Jody Bray had an unassisted goal for the Bulldogs in the second half.
Thursday night at Greene, Unatego poured on the offense in the second half scoring five times en route to an 8-1 victory.
Dana Stepp scored twice in the opening half for the Spartans, and added a third goal - a hat trick -with less than 10 minutes to play to lead her club in scoring.
Stepp also had two assists, one of those coming to Bailey McCoy, who also had two goals on the evening.
Greene's Cassie Butler had her team's lone tally scoring on a penalty kick at 24:28 of the second half.

GREENE - Maine-Endwell erupted for three second-quarter goals, and went on to a 4-0 shutout win over previously-unbeaten Greene on Saturday.
Jenna Zunic and Ava Passante split the Spartans' goals with two apiece.
Zunic broke the scoreless tie scoring unassisted at 9:59 of the second quarter. Just 39 seconds later, Zunic tallied her next goal getting an assist from Passante.
Greene mustered five penalty corners in the game, but managed just one shot on goal against M-E.
The Trojans (2-1) play Vestal Tuesday, March 30.
