NORWICH – It was a perfect day on the pitch for the Norwich High School girls’ varsity soccer team as they trounced the Seton Catholic Saints 10-3 at home on senior night to pick up their third win of the season so far.
After scoring a lone goal in their latest outing, the Purple Tornado got some nice shots on goal in this contest as the game leaned in Norwich’s favor from the get-go.
It was an all-out Norwich offensive from the start as Maddie Stafford, MacKenzie Hess and Taylor McCarthy each scored one goal apiece to pace the Purple’s first half performance. Notably, Norwich Head Coach Doug Coggins contributed the quick opening half goals for the Tornado from the “big time pressure” on Seton’s front-line from Sara Davis and Taylor McCarthy to mitigate any offensive action from the Saints.
Moving the ball evenly and equally between the midfield and forward lines was crucial to the NHS attack and it wasn’t long before Sara Davis and Sydney Coggins each tacked on a couple goals of their own; with Davis scoring two goals and Coggins logging five goals of her own.
For Norwich, their defense was nearly as potent as their offense as NHS goalie Bree Minor turned away eight Seton Catholic shot attempts.
“All seniors contributed in either offense of defense” said Norwich Head Coach Dough Coggins, on his assessment of his club’s performance, “Midfield was quick to the ball and transition was very good.”
Norwich (3-1) return to the field on Thursday April 1st when they take on the Windsor Black Knights under the lights at the Norwich High School turf field, with kick-off slated for 6:30pm.
