Oxford police chase ends with vehicle collision

OXFORD – The Oxford Police Department was involved in a vehicle pursuit and collision earlier this week after a motorcyclist allegedly fled law enforcement and then caused an accident.

According to Village of Oxford Mayor Terry Stark, members of the Oxford Police Department were attempting to stop a motorcyclist for a traffic infraction on Wednesday when the vehicle feigned compliance before driving away.

Stark said police reported that they followed the motorcycle rider until the rider slammed on their brakes causing a collision.

He said no one was seriously injured in the incident, though the front metal grill of the patrol car did receive minor damage.

“From what I was told there was no significant damage to the motorcycle, the police car, or either driver,” said Stark. “We should hear more information on the incident at the next board meeting.”

The next Village of Oxford Board Meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. on April 27.

Representatives of the Oxford Police Department were contacted but failed to respond before press deadline.
