Norwich XC defeats Sidney on senior night
NORWICH – Purple Tornado senior Julian Roque tore up the course at Norwich High School on Tuesday April 20th as he finished in first place in the boys varsity race, running a scorching fast time of 17:20 over the flat 5K course as NHS dispatched Sidney 25-30.
“Julian (Roque) had a nice win” said Norwich Head Coach Shaun Horan, “He was by himself the whole time and he just pushed the entire time, he had a great race- a really strong race.”
Finishing right behind Roque in second place was his junior teammate Makaio Sutton who finished in a time of 18:07. Zander Sutton and Norwich senior Andrew Meccariello finished ninth and tenth respectively with Sutton timing 20:35 and Meccariello, the quintessential consistent finisher for the Norwich XC team all season long finished with a time of 20:41. Rounding out the scoring for Norwich was rookie cross-country runner, Tornado senior Nick Oieady who placed 17th in a time of 27:45.
Sidney’s John McNamara and Sam Ragley finished fourth and fifth place respectively in times of 19:33 and 19:41 to lead Sidney. UV’s Brendan Finch finished third with a time of 18:10 and teammate Noah Pain placed sixth in a time of 20:11.
On the girls’ side, Norwich’s Hannah Debates ran a time of 24:24 to place sixth and right behind Debates in seventh was Norwich teammate Robyn Diehl. Diehl finished in a time of 24:32. Gracie Bookamer finished 18th in a time of 29:50 to round out the Purple Tornado runners who crossed the finish line.
Other Chenango County finishers placing in the top 10 were Ethne Deagan from B-G/Afton/Harpursville, Deagan placed first in a time of 19:12. McKayla Payne, Kira Davidson and Logan Ives all finished for BGAH with Payne timing 23:38 for fifth place, Davidson finishing eighth in a time of 24:33, and Ives finishing 10th in a time of 25:22.
Unadilla Valley’s Gracie Gorrell was the sole UV runner who placed in the top 10 with a third place finish timing 23:26.
