Dollars for Scholars and several other donors provided over $100,000 in scholarships for this year's graduating class, according to the Norwich High School Facebook page. NORWICH — The Norwich High School will be holding their graduation ceremony on June 26, at the Norwich High School.
Norwich High School Principal Kisten Giglio said if the weather cooperates, the ceremony will be held outside at 10 a.m., and will be a single ceremony.
However, Giglio also said that the ceremony will be moved inside in the case of inclement weather. If that occurs, the graduation ceremony will have to be split into three separate ceremonies, which will occur at 9 a.m., 10:30 a.m., and 12 p.m.
"That gets called the day of so we don't know. The plan is to have it outdoors, one ceremony," said Giglio.
Much of the ceremony will be what students and family members are used to, according to Giglio. She said students are permitted to bring four guests, Senior Recognition Night will be the night before, on June 25, and the senior class Valedictorian and Salutatorian, Sydney Coggins and Andrew Meccariello, respectively, will be recognized at the ceremony.
"We're doing everything we've always done," said Giglio. "We're still providing all the same opportunities."
COVID guidelines will also be enforced at the ceremony, said Giglio. This includes mask wearing and social distancing.
"We have to follow all COVID guidelines, you know the masks, distancing. There's four guests per student, everybody's sitting six feet apart, all the standard stuff that everybody's used to," said Giglio.
The High School has also been doing Senior Spotlights, where they take a moment to recognize each graduating senior, their favorite High School memories, and their advice to underclassmen.
"One cool thing is we're doing senior spotlights, that goes on Facebook," said Giglio. "We feature three seniors every day, hopefully through all of June."
These spotlights are made possible by Norwich High School senior Madison Stafford. She designed the template used to feature each graduating senior, according to Giglio.
The High School also held their annual Dollars for Scholars ceremony this week. According to a Facebook post by the Norwich High School, Dollars for Scholars and several other donations raised over $100,000 in scholarships for the graduating class.
While current school events might not look quite the same due to COVID, Giglio emphasized that the High School is still keeping up with regularly scheduled events.
"So for two years in a row we haven't missed any ceremonies. Everything is the same, they just look a little different," said Giglio. "But we've done them all and we've done them in person."
