County health department holding Pfizer vaccine clinic

NORWICH — The Chenango County Department of Health will be holding a Pfizer vaccine clinic in the South Plaza at the former Label Shopper building on Wednesday, June 2.
The clinic will be open from approximately 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., according to Public Health Information Officer Isaiah Sutton. He encourages residents to pre-register for vaccination to make the process as smooth as possible.
"Folks are asked to register in advance as this really helps us streamline the process," said Sutton. "You complete a lot of the screening we would have to do inside if you didn't pre-register, it allows us to move this process along."
To make appointments even quicker, Sutton advises vaccine recipients to arrive for their appointment as close to their scheduled time as possible.
"They should arrive as close to their appointment time as possible and then they'll follow instructions. After their vaccine they'll be asked to wait fifteen minutes just to make sure there's no complications, and then they'll be all set to go," said Sutton.
"Our process is very seamless, and we try to get folks in and out as quick as possible," he added.
According to the Health Department, vaccine recipients should also be available on June 23 to get their second dosage of the Pfizer vaccine. Sutton stated there will be a second clinic to accommodate this requirement.
"We'll hold another clinic. Anyone who participates in our clinic will be automatically scheduled for their second dose," said Sutton. "Same time, same location."
The Health Department has access to approximately 500 doses for the upcoming clinic, and Sutton stated they already have around 200 residents pre-registered.
"I think we've got nearly 200 people registered. We really encourage folks to get out and get registered while there's still spaces available," said Sutton.
Registration will be open until Wednesday morning, according to Sutton. He stated that those wishing to pre-register can do so on the Chenango County Health Department website. There will be a button that says "Vaccine Scheduling Info" in the upper left-hand corner, which will take residents to a page allowing them to register for vaccination.
"We'll be taking registrations probably right up to Wednesday morning, but there's a time we'll have to take registration down to get ready for the clinic," said Sutton.
Children 12 years and older are now eligible for the Pfizer vaccine, but Sutton said any recipients under the age of 18 should be accompanied by a parent or guardian to fill out necessary paperwork.
Residents receiving the vaccine can expect a quick and easy process, according to Sutton.
"This clinic space has worked really great for us," said Sutton. "The longest wait I've heard of is about 10 minutes if you get here right at your registration time. We get folks in and out very quickly."
