Local photographers’ work to be displayed at the Artists' Palette
NORWICH – The Artists’ Palette will host a gallery opening next week, showcasing works from numerous photographers who are taking the “Capture It!” course.
Kraft said this course started on May 13 and will end on June 17. She said from 6 to 8 p.m. on June 17 there will be a free to view full gallery of four works from each of the photographers at Creative Works/The Artists’ Palette.
“The class has been really successful, and we’re happy to be able to display each photographer’s work for everyone to see,” said Kraft. “My goal is to offer another class in the early fall, one that will include more day trips as people seem to benefit from that.”
She said the inspiration for the class was discovered last summer following a photography class for teenagers. She added that she felt there were monumental things happening all over Chenango County, and many people who wanted to capture them but didn’t know how to use their cameras.
“We were happy to be able to teach a class for teenagers, but we wanted to be able to expand that to adults as well,” said Kraft. “After the class last summer, I wanted to fill that gap and teach adults how to use their cameras and take better photos.”
“90 percent of people come into my shop because they have a beautiful camera but they don’t really know how to use them.”
She said the class allowed students to work at their own pace, letting each student experiment with different concepts or skills at their leisure. She added that the finale of the class, the gallery opening, is being done to highlight local photographers’ work and show the importance of having images printed.
“I didn’t want them to have a great photo that would sit on their computers,” said Kraft. “This will be a component of our class in the fall as well because it’s important people see their images printed.”
Kraft said the next class will likely be in the fall, and anyone interested in learning more about artistic classes like “Capture It!” can reach out at (607) 244-1445 for additional information.
According to Artists’ Palette owner Jill Kraft, the “Capture It!” photography course was made possible with public funds from the Decentralization Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature, and administered by The Earlville Opera House.
