COLESVILLE – Law enforcement have been searching for a man who shot a New York State Trooper, and are warning that he is still considered armed and dangerous.

According to New York State Police Troop C Public Information Officer Aga Dembinska, at approximately 8:36 p.m. on June 9 Broome County Sheriff’s Deputies and members of the New York State Police responded to East Windsor Road in Colesville to check on the welfare of an individual.

Dembinska said Jason D. Johnson, age 34, shot one of the troopers who arrived on scene, and is currently on the run from law enforcement. She said the trooper’s gunshot wound appears to be non-life-threatening at this time, and the hunt for Johnson continues.

“He is 5’7” and approximately 160 pounds,” said Dembinska. “His hair is longer than pictured and in a long mohawk style.”

“Johnson was last seen in the East Windsor Road area near Thorn Hill.”

She said at the time of print, Johnson is considered armed and dangerous, so if a resident sees him they are advised not to approach him or his vehicle, but instead to call 911 immediately. She added that law enforcement members continue to search the area in Colesville.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office released a warning to the public on Thursday morning stating that it’s possible that Johnson may be operating a 1996 Ford F-250 pick-up truck, blue in color with the NY license plate HZV7759.

Dembinska said this is an on-going investigation, more details will be released as they are available. She said a large number of law enforcement members are in the East Windsor Road area looking for an armed and dangerous suspect.
