Relay for Life event this weekend

NORWICH — Relay for Life has been a staple in the Norwich community for 25 years, returning every year to raise money to fight cancer. This year they will be holding their last walk-a-thon event on July 17, in East Park in Norwich.

The event will only be open to participants, survivors and their families, and specially invited guests, according to Relay for Life committee members. This is an effort to protect cancer survivors from COVID-19.

Relay for Life Event Chair Lynne Roberts said she plans to tie in some aspects of former Relay events to this year's finale, to add a touch of nostalgia. This will include themed laps, a callback to the themed events held in years prior, a Luminaria ceremony, and an open mic event to reminisce on fond Relay memories.

"I will probably do some themed laps at the event," said Roberts. " We've asked them to share any memories or stuff at the event, we're gonna have like an open mic type thing ... Think of a year that you really enjoyed, a theme or something, and kind of share that with us."
