NORWICH – Volunteers built a new playground at Greenway Park this weekend, but it is not yet open for the public. Before it can open, workers still need to put on the final pieces and lay down gravel to cover the foundation.
The Chenango Greenway Conservancy received a $15,000 grant from the Roger Follett Foundation in 2019 to build a new playground after the opening of Baker Dog Park. The Norwich Common Council agreed to fund the remainder of the playground's construction cost on August 20 of that year. The funding of the project amounted to approximately $29,000. NBT Bank help provide volunteers for the work.
The construction of the new playground was hampered by bad weather during 2019 and the COVID-19 pandemic last year.
