Mid York Concert Band calls for musicians

CHENANGO COUNTY — After a year and a half hiatus due to COVID-19, the Mid York Concert Band is looking forward to beginning rehearsals this fall in preparation for their annual winter concert.

Under the direction of Mark Sands, now in his seventh year, this is a high-quality, 40-plus piece, performing ensemble made up of professionals, educators, students, and dedicated amateurs from Chenango and surrounding counties.

First organized in 1990 by the late Red Raville, the band morphed several times and eventually folded. The current band was re-organized and performed it’s first concert in May of 2015.

Currently, we are recruiting area musicians to join our core ensemble. With some exceptions, rehearsals are generally every other Tuesday evening. The first rehearsal is slated for September 14th from 7 p.m. to 9 or 9:30 p.m. in the Norwich Middle School band room. There are two scheduled concerts, December 14, 2021 and May 22, 2022.

We welcome musicians on all instruments but, as always, we need clarinets, trumpets, and baritone horns. Oboes and bassoons would be nice as well. We hope area musicians will take the opportunity to join us and please feel free to share this information with other fellow musicians.
