FIELD HOCKEY: Greene wins overtime thriller over Vestal
GREENE - Greene started its 2021 season with a thrilling overtime win over longtime rival Vestal on Thursday afternoon.
With less than two minutes left in the second overtime, Olivia Kennedy gathered a through pass, and fired a pass to the left post. Sarah Sexton redirected the pass into the cage giving the Trojans a hard-fought 2-1 victory.
"It was an exciting and competitive start to the season," said Greene's first-year coach Heather Rapp. "It was a pretty evenly matched game, and Vestal always plays tough."
Greene grabbed the 1-0 lead in the second quarter. After a foul in the penalty area, Olivia Kennedy converted the penalty stroke.
Vestal's Kendall Brady knotted the game at 1-1 scoring unassisted at 10:44 of the third quarter.
"It was a total team effort," Rapp said. "Every player on our team contributed to the win."
Greene hosts Maine-Endwell Thursday, Sept. 9.
