Norwich’s holiday season may get a little sweeter this year
NORWICH — Preparations are under way for this year’s holiday season, according to BID Administrator Tracy Chawgo and BID Executive Committee member Mindy Chawgo. The pair are hard at work organizing this year’s Trunk or Treat and Saturdays in the Park with Chobani.
Trunk or Treat was one of the few community events not lost to COVID-19 last year, and Tracy Chawgo said they want to bring it back this October.
“We did it last year, Mindy organized it and set it up. It was a huge success. We had, I can’t even tell you how many kids, there was a ton of kids there,” he said. “We want to do it again this year, again in the Frontier parking lot.”
The event will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, October 30. The day will also host several other community events as well.
“That’s also the last day of Saturday in the Park with Chobani. as well as the YMCA Halloween Parade will be that day as well. Businesses will provide their own wrapped candy. But we, like I said, we just wanted to give you guys a heads up that that’s a work in progress, planning is underway,” said Tracy.
He added that they want to help the community in any way they can, especially in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
“Whatever we can do to help the community, and do the events and whatnot I think is important for the area, especially with everything that’s been going on for the last year,” he said.
Mindy said Saturday in the Park with Chobani is also a go for this fall. They will begin September 25, and run for six weeks until October 30.
“It’s even bigger this year. We have a lot of participants this year,” she said. “We usually bud up with the Colorscape, but we’re skipping a week and then going so that our last one could be the big Halloween parade.”
Council members thanked Mindy and Tracy Chawgo for their efforts on continuing the popular community events. Alderman David Zieno said, “I just wanted to say thank you for continuing this program. And also for, you know, your help on the Saturdays in the park, too.”
“As Tracy said, he’s the city BID Administrator, he’s hit the ground running, he’s doing a great job so far. We’re keeping him busy with a lot of tasks so, he’s really doing a great job. He knows the city inside and out too, so that definitely helps,” said Alderman Matthew Caldwell. “So thank you Tracy and Mindy.”
