Tornado Harriers at Forbes Invitational

ONEONTA- The Norwich Purple Tornado boys and girls varsity cross-country teams opened their season at the Dave ‘Flash’ Forbes invitational in Oneonta on Saturday September 11th. While neither team had enough eligible runners to record a score for team competition- there were several standout times that were recorded by each Tornado’s squad.
On the boys side- NHS senior Makaio Sutton was the first Tornado to cross the finish line placing 44th among the field of 129 runners in a time of 19:39 over the 5K course. Norwich junior Zander Sutton placed 82nd in a time of 21:39. Freshman Caden Sutton placed 104th for the Tornado in a time of 23:37, and Norwich senior Zach Russell placed 121st recording a time of 27:34.
Over on the girls’ side, Purple Tornado freshman Annie Boland made her varsity cross-country debut finishing 59th out of 130 finishers over the 5000 meter course- crossing the tape in a time of 26:04. Norwich senior Robyn Diehl placed 94th overall, recording a time of 29:29. Not far behind Diehl fellow Tornado comrade- NHS freshman Kyra Brunick-Davis who placed 97th with a time of 29:57.
The Purple Tornado are back in action on Tuesday September 14th, when they host the Seton Catholic Central Saints at the Stanford Gibson Elementary school. The meet is set to begin for the girls’ cross-country teams at 4:30pm with the boys teams set to start immediately following.
