NORWICH — Longtime Norwich resident, business owner, and now mayoral candidate John Quattrocchi held a town hall meeting last night to meet with voters, explain his ideas, and answer questions.

"I've lived in Norwich all my life, 50 years of my life. I've been involved in community activities, different activities. I decided after a number of years, my children are raised now and I have a grandchild, that I have the time that I can focus on some politics stuff with the City of Norwich. I have investments in the City of Norwich, I have an apartment house, I have vacant land in the City of Norwich, and I'm a primary resident," he said. "I'm a part of the community. But as I stated in my letter, we're at a critical crossroads where we want to go in the City of Norwich, what direction we want to go in."

Several community members attended the town hall, and the group discussed a wide range of topics including revitalization of city parks, generating revenue, reducing crime, and more.

Despite a lack of political experience, Quattrocchi said he wanted to run for mayor because he felt he had the time and the ambition to do the job well, and has paused his business endeavors to ensure he can dedicate his time to the position.

"You know, I have my business, it's a part time business right now but again, I decided, you know, now I have to go full time and expand bigger to other areas. I put that on hold while I'm running for mayor to see the outcome of that. Because I believe I have the time and the dedication to afford the position of mayor. The idea that it's a 20 hour week position, but it's a 30-35 hour week position. I mean, you have to really dedicate the time to know what's going on in City Hall and see what happens," said Quattrocchi. "Not a lot of political experience, but I believe I have the drive and the passion to be successful in that position."

He also emphasized the need for community involvement, in the form of local government asking for their thoughts, and hosting regular town halls.

"I believe anybody in this room, or anybody, should be able to call up the mayor, make an appointment, square a time to sit down and talk about the issues that are happening just like this town hall," Quattrocchi explained. "I'm doing this town hall tonight for you folks that were gracious enough to attend, but I think that still needs to continue next year, every six months. Have a group of people come together and talk about this, the feeling of what's going on in the City of Norwich."

"Put it back to the voters, the people of the City of Norwich. What do you think is important?" he added. "To get where we need to go we can't do it without community support, we can't do it without our neighbors."
