Norwich volleyball avenges loss to Owego

NORWICH  -  Since an opening-match four-set loss to Owego, Norwich's volleyball team has been on a roll.
The Purple Tornado avenged that defeat, and won their seventh straight match knocking off the previously-unbeaten Indians, 25-15, 25-16, 20-25, 25-12, on Thursday night.
Since losing that opening match, Norwich had dropped only three total sets over the next six matches, and nearly had a three-set sweep against the Indians.
Lauren Squires and Miranda Cole provided the firepower at the net for Norwich, and Maddy Morris was the more-than-capable setter.
Squires piled up 20 kills and Cole added 14 kills. Morris, meanwhile, was charted with a season-best 27 assists.
Norwich (7-1) returns to action Oct. 5 when it hosts Vestal.

DELHI -  Unadilla Valley's volleyball team quickly rebounded from its first loss of the season defeating Delhi in three sets Thursday, 25-23, 25-22, 25-17.
Kate Conway posted another all-around strong match for the Storm (6-1). Conway had 12 digs, 9 aces, and 15 assists, all team-highs for the match.
Melanie VanValen racked up 8 kills, and Bella Jones contributed five digs and five aces to the winning effort.

Delhi:   Vidya Samudrala 7 kills, 4 blocks, Joelle Smith 7 digs, 3 aces. Julie Baxter 5 blocks, 2 kills; Annaliese Taylor 4 assists. Elianna Tarrants 7 digs. Melanie VanValen 8 kills; Bella Jones 5 aces, 5 digs 4 kills; Makaylie Canfield 4 kills; Erica Mumbulo 3 blocks.

Oxford 3, Harpursville/Afton 2
HARPURSVILLE - Playing its second straight tightly contested matchup, Oxford again rose to the challenge rallying to defeat Harpursville/Afton in five sets, 17-25, 17-25, 25-14, 25-16, 25-21.
Madalyn Barrows had a strong all-around performance. She finished with 14 kills, 11 digs, 3 aces, and one block.
Mallory Olsen-Nichols complemented Barrows' strong net play with a game-high 21 assists as Oxford improved its mark to 5-1 on the season.
Mallory Carman had 24 assists and 14 digs to lead Harpursville/Afton.

Harpursville:  Mallory Carman 24 assists, 14 digs, Caidence Ryder 11 kills, 5 aces. Hailey Lancaster 7 kills, 2 blocks; Morgan Lavergne 6 aces.
Oxford:  Madalyn Barrows 14 kills, 3 aces, 11 digs, 1 block. Mallory Olsen Nichols 21 assists. Jadyn Ruff 15 digs.

WALTON - While Greene drew closer in every set, it was unable to break through against host Walton losing in three sets Thursday,  25-10, 25-15, 25-19.
Kellie Dones had 10 aces and eight kills to lead the Warriors.
Mubetcel Adiguzel and Camric Williams paced the Greene defense with five digs apiece.
