Norwich’s Sutton claims top finish at Whitney Point XC Invitational

WHITNEY POINT- With the Section IV cross-country state qualifying meet a little under two weeks away, Purple Tornado senior Makaio Sutton is peaking at the right time. Fresh off of a sixth place finish at Marathon, Sutton continued his stellar senior campaign with a first place finish out of the field of 48 runners at the Whitney Point Invitational on Tuesday, October 19. Sutton navigated the 5K course in 19:21.
Norwich junior Zander Sutton and freshman Caden Sutton rounded out the Purple Tornado’s boys’ varsity runners as they finished 12th and 13th respectively. Zander crossed the finish line in 21:44.8 and Caden in 21:46.7.
In the girls’ varsity race, Norwich’s Annie Boland continued her ever-improving rookie campaign with a seventh place finish out of 30 runners. Boland timed the 5K course in 25:50. Classmate Kyra Brunick-Davis continued her rookie season for the Tornado placing 23rd in a time of 30:15.8. Rounding out the race for Norwich was senior Robyn Diehl. Diehl placed 25th in a time of 32:11.
