Volleyball: Norwich’s bid for first sectional title falls short

CORNING - Norwich’s rubber match with Owego - with a sectional title on the line - went in favor of the Indians.

The Indians, a perennial contender for Section IV volleyball championships, turned back Norwich’s bid for a first-ever Section IV title winning the Class B title game on Saturday in three sets, 25-15, 25-18, 26-24.

The two clubs could not have been more evenly matched heading into the finals.

Owego won initial meeting - Norwich’s season-opener - in four sets, but the Purple Tornado returned the favor 3 1/2 weeks later defeating the Indians in four sets as well.

Then, in Class B pool play finals on Thursday, the two clubs split their two sets en route to a finals appearance.
