Purple Tornado competes at Ithaca Bomber Invite

ITHACA- It was a bountiful day for the Norwich High School varsity indoor track team as they brought home three first place victories and a school record. 


Starting on the varsity girls' side, Shakira Alexander placed first in shot put with a throw of 35 feet and 1 inch, beating out Tornado teammate Lexi Slate who placed second in a throw of 30 feet and 2.5 inches. 


Norwich senior Robyn Diehl tied a Norwich school indoor track record in pole vault with a vault of 7 feet. Diehl's performance earner her a third place finish.

On the boys' varsity team, Makaio Sutton placed first in the 3200m race in a time of 10:50.91. The Norwich quartet of Makaio Sutton, Drew Brooks, Zander Sutton and Caden Sutton also earned a victory in the 4x800m relay with a time of 9:33.6. 


Zander Sutton placed fourth in the 600m race in a time of 1:35.1. Nolan Reid placed fourth in the 1600m race in a time of 5:10.19. Gage Titsworth placed fifth in the long jump with a leap of 16 feet 8.5 inches. 


In the shot put event, Harrison Matlack-Grey placed second with a throw of 34 feet .75 inches. Teammate Hunter Wenzel placed third with a throw of 33 feet 1.25 inches. 


Norwich is back in action tonight when they travel to Colgate University for a Section III/Section IV crossover meet.
