Softball: Greene shutout Oxford
GREENE— In the midst of a winter storm, the Greene Girls Softball team shutout Chenango County foes, Oxford 18-0 in five innings Monday night.
Olivia Kennedy pitched a perfect no-hit game for the Trojans and struck out 12 batters in the victory. She also fielded three ground outs, including one tough line drive in the second.
Kennedy, at the top spot of the lineup, helped her team offensively by going 3-for-4 with two singles and had a two run RBI double in the second inning. Caitlin Walls scored four runs as a pinch runner for Kennedy.
Both Abbey and Payton Yahner had great games at the plate for Greene. Abbey’s two-out double plated two runs to start the scoring in the first while Payton went 2-for-3 and had two rbis (four in total) herself from a single to center in the fourth.
McKenzie Scott also drove in a run with an rbi single to right in the third inning off reliever Smith.
Oxford pitching combined for five strikeouts in the loss.
The 4-0 Trojans look to stay hot as they travel to Lansing Tuesday afternoon before coming home to face Sidney on Wednesday. The Oxford Blackhawks will travel to Unatego on Friday before competing in the SFCU softball tournament on Saturday.
