Norwich Track and Field teams compete at STAC Championship

JOHNSON CITY– On Wednesday, the Norwich boys and girls track and field teams participated in the 2022 STAC Championship held in Johnson City.


For the girls, Corning earned a first place finish with a dominant 110.33 points while Norwich finished in ninth place with a steady 33 points.


It was tough for Norwich to place in each event. Shakira Alexander achieved the lone first place finish for the Purple Tornado in the Shot Put (35-11.50) with 10 points.


Lexi Slate followed in second place (32-10.50) picking up eight points. Slate also earned second place in the discus throw (92-08) with Alexander coming in third (92-03).

Olivia Schiraldi made the top-10 with a sixth place finish in the High Jump, just missing earning a point (4-06.00). Annie Boland finished in seventh in the 2000 meter steeplechase with a time of 9:04.74.


Robyn Diehl finished tenth in the pole vault event with a score of 6-00.00, which tied other athletes.


For the boys, Corning excelled with 148 points while Norwich came in sixth with 33 points.


Holden Ryan placed third in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.69 seconds. Teammate Richard Fuller finished in fourth place in the 400 meter dash (51.99 seconds) earning four team points.


Makaio Sutton finished within the top-10 with an eighth place finish in the 3200 meter run

(10:35.80). Gabe Decker also earned eighth in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:04.31.


A team of Fuller, Decker, Gage Titsworth, and Anthony Ragonese earned fourth place in the 4x400 relay (3:41.79) while Norwich placed second in the 4x800 relay.

In the high jump, Lucas Craddock tied for third with two other athletes (5-08.00) while Jerell Stokes and Ragonese tied for ninth place in the long jump event (18-04.25).


Craddock also achieved fifth place in the triple jump (39-04.50) as Ragonese earned sixth (38-08.75). Norwich’s Alek Smietana placed ninth in the boys discus throw (103-00).
