FIELD HOCKEY: Greene defeats Afton in shortened game

GREENE – With nine minutes left of the third quarter, the game between Greene and Afton/Harpursville had to be stopped due to a thunderstorm. The game never resumed, but Greene scored two goals in the first half to give them the win.
With seven minutes left in the first quarter, Payton Yahner dribbled her way to the net, finding teammate Josie Dutcher who scored the first goal of the game for the Trojans.
Before halftime, Payton Yahner would find Claire Flanagan to pick up her first goal, Yahner’s second assist of the day.
While Afton struggled to score, they put three shots on goal, which Greene’s Natalie Scofield saved.
Greene hosts Newark Valley on Saturday at noon while Afton/Harpursville travels to Maine-Endwell on Thursday afternoon.
