NORWICH – The Boy Scouts held a community event in New Berlin recently, welcoming new recruits and thanking supporters.
Bill Rapp Subaru and Norwich Dodge Chrysler Jeep sponsored the 2022 Chenango District Scout Bowl-a-Thon with a matching grant towards 2023 memberships.
"Retain, Recruit, and Reward," were the goals, said event organizer and New Berlin Troop 61 Scoutmaster Kevin Phillips.
About 24 people attended the event at Lake Street Lanes in New Berlin on November 12.
Scouts from Greene, Harpursville, New Berlin, and Sherburne were rewarded with free bowling, subsidized membership fees for 2023, and patches.
"Bill Rapp and Dick Pope really stepped-up to support Chenango County Scouting at a time when Covid has decimated our membership by 25 percent", said Phillips. "Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.”.
Earlier, troops from Sherburne and New Berlin survived a storm while tenting at Millbrook Recreation Area. All boys ages 11-17 are welcome to join the fun at New Berlin Scout Troop 61.
Troop 61 has had 75 Eagle Scouts in 75 years. Check out the fun calendar of events for 2022-2023 at http://www.troop61newberlin.com.
