GIRLS BASKETBALL: Greene earns first MAC win against UV

NEW BERLIN – The Greene Trojans and the Unadilla Valley Storm competed in a MAC league game on Wednesday evening. For Greene, this was only their second game of the season, where they took a 52-32 victory.
In the first half, UV was heavily pressured on defense where they were unable to set up a good shot. Greene, with a good advantage, set up some nice 5-0 and 8-0 runs in the first and second quarter to take a 19-12 lead at halftime. UV was held to six points in the second quarter with four being free-throws.
After halftime, both teams knew that they had to step up their game. For Greene, that was easy as they lit up with 22 points. Payton Yahner, who led all scorers with 17 points, scored 12 points in that third quarter alone with a little help.
As much as the Storm tried to get something going on offense, Greene limited them. Kadence York and Jaiden Schrag continue to lead the Storm as top point scorers. York had 10 points while Schrag had eight. Eight of York’s points came from free-throws.
Greene (2-0) will be playing Oxford, who is also 2-0, on Friday at 7 p.m. while UV (1-2) will participate in the Sherburne-Earlville tip-off tournament on Friday at 6 p.m. against Richfield Springs.
