NORWICH — The Norwich City School District reported that early Friday morning, Stanford Gibson Primary School cafeteria staff discovered a scorpion amongst the bananas they were washing to serve the students.

NCSD said cafeteria and custodial staff followed all protocols and were able to contain the scorpion without harm to any staff or students.

Norwich High School Zoology students were able to take advantage of the unexpected visitor: Students fed crickets to the scorpion and studied it under a glow light.

The scorpion is believed to be a Banana Scorpion, and NCSD suspects it stowed away in the banana box shipped all the way from Guatemala.
