Wednesday Winter Weather advisory issued for Chenango County

CHENANGO COUNTY – The Chenango County Office of Emergency Management has shared a Winter weather advisory for Chenango County effective Wednesday from 9 a.m. until 10 p.m.


Most schools in the area have early dismissal with after-school activities cancelled and no sporting events.


Officials said snowfall rates of 1 to 1.5 inches per hour may occur and some power outages were possible.


According to officials snow accumulations for the Norwich and surrounding areas are expected at between 4 to 6 inches on average. Winds will be out of the southeast with gusts, possibly 25 to 30 mph. Higher elevations, will see more snow and stronger wind gusts.

According to the national weather service Wednesday morning, the “storm starts with a quick accumulation of snow moving in during the morning (southwest) to midday (northeast); lasting most of the afternoon. Snowfall rates may reach 1 to 1.5” per hour.


“Southeast winds increase, becoming gusty mid afternoon and evening especially in higher terrain of northeast PA/Southern Tier and Finger Lakes areas of central NY. This could lead to a few power outages and some blowing snow.
