BOYS SWIMMING: NHS competes in Sectional Championships

MAINE-ENDWELL – After a dynamic performance in the prelims on Wednesday, the Norwich Purple Tornado boys swim team was back in action for the Section IV, Class B championship. All swimmers had achieved best times and showed great improvement to make it to the finals.
Both relay teams, who took seventh in prelims, finished strong on Saturday. The 200 freestyle relay team consisting of Ethan Guzewich, Nate Shtrauch, Amon Oliver, and Kris Deuel came away with a sixth place finish in a time of 1:50.15. The 400 freestyle team, which included Tim Guzewich and excluded Amon Oliver, finished in seventh.
Kris Deuel had two impressive performances in his respective events. He achieved fifth place in the 500 yard freestyle, which should advance him to the upcoming State Qualifiers. He came away with an eighth place finish in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 2:02.88, seconds away from breaking a new best time.
Tim Guzewich earned fifth place in the 100 yard backstroke. The freshman accomplished a new best time of 1:02.98. He also finished 10th in the 200 yard individual medley, which he swam in 2:22.71, another new personal best.
Senior Ethan Guzewich swam the 50 yard freestyle event in 26.35 seconds for a best of 12th place while coming in 14th in the 100 yard freestyle for a new best time of 57.43 seconds. Nate Shtrauch earned 12th place in the 500 yard freestyle, matching his previous best-time of 5:52.99.
