SHERBURNE – On Friday, the Sherburne-Earlville Marauders baseball team hosted Waterville on Senior Night. S-E attempted a late comeback in the bottom of the seventh inning, but Waterville held on to a 7-4 victory.
Prior to the start of the game, the Marauders celebrated its class of 2023 seniors. Congratulations to Espn Anderson, Wyatt Uhlig, Ryan Moseley, Jackson Bush, and Carter Supensky. Best of luck to each of you.
Each senior started the game, where Moseley earned the start at shortstop, a position he wanted to play. It was the perfect chance to play that position with Espn Anderson taking the role as pitcher. Moseley even had an RBI single to center field in the fifth inning.
It was a scoreless game up until the top of the fourth inning, where a few S-E mishaps led to Waterville scoring a few unearned runs. Waterville scored three in the inning and added on with two in the fifth and two in the seventh inning to secure the win.
S-E got on the board in the bottom half of the fourth inning as Dominic Fowlston reached base on a one out single to center field. Fowlston went 2-for-3 on the day. Fowlston stole two bases in those plate appearances and scored on Wyatt Uhlig’s two out RBI single.
Jackson Bush led the fifth inning off with a single to center that rolled past the pitcher’s mound and middle of the infield. He stole a base and scored on Espn Anderson’s groundout. Owen Brown reached on an error and scored on Moseley’s RBI single.
S-E was shut down in the sixth inning, but were eager to have a chance in the bottom of the seventh. The Marauders got two straight batters on with singles by Wesley Fisher and Bush. Fisher scored on Owen Brown’s groundout RBI, but that was it for S-E on offense.
The Marauders played a much better game and can only improve in the last few contests ahead. S-E hosts Westmoreland this afternoon at 4:30 p.m. for their final home game of the season.
