First responders recognized with 'Tribute Night' at Afton Fairground

AFTON — A special recognition ceremony to honor regional first responders will be held at 6 p.m. on July 7 at the Afton Fairground Grandstands located at 46 East Main Street.
Event organizer Terry Potter said, “These men and women are our everyday hero’s that do not get enough recognition. Some of the honorees that will be recognized carry on the legacy of their families that have served their communities for generations.”
First responders include both volunteer and paid firefighters, Emergency Medical Service workers, and representatives of law enforcement from Chenango, Broome, Otsego, and Delaware counties. They will be recognized for their everyday continue efforts of servitude and protection of the local surrounding communities.
The main sponsor for the event is NYCM Insurance.
Following the recognition ceremony, there will be a live performance by National headlining country music star Josh Gracin, who rose to fame after he took fourth-place finalist on the second season of American Idol.
Afton Board President Rhonda Barriger said, “We are all excited to welcome Gracin to the stage and bring this event to the fair. We are all about giving back to the community and this is our way of showing our appreciation to men and women first responders.”
Gracin, a former Marine turned country singer, gained a following in 2004 with hits “I want to Live” and chart topping “Nothin” to lose. After years of touring he took a step back from the road and performing until recently, when once again, he is back in the limelight with his new single release “Good for You”.
According to the singer’s website, his new music is packed with a deeper meaning and insight than his previous works; it's designed to resonate with his fans in a whole new way.
Potter explained they are still accepting nominations for first responder recognition and are very appreciative of the nominations received at this time and look forward to honoring them with a plaque at the event.
“It’s going to be a great evening and I’m happy to be bringing Josh Gracin back to our area to culminate the ceremony with a live acoustic concert,” said Potter.
Tickets are on sale at Rinker Insurance, Snake Bite Liquors and are $10 each. The event is free for children under twelve.
