NORWICH – The 65th annual Canasawacta Country Club member-guest tournament kicks off this morning with the first group teeing off at 8 a.m. and the second group at 1:30 p.m. The second round will continue on Friday, August 4 with the third and final round on Saturday, August 5. Sunday, August 6 may be used in case of any rain outs.

Thursday and Friday will be shotgun starts for all flights, beginning approximately at 8 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Golfers are advised to please arrive at least 30 minutes prior to their scheduled start time.

Thursday and Friday’s pairings have been sent via email and will also be available at the Pro Shop and Clubhouse. Saturday’s pairings should be available late on Friday night. Saturday’s shotgun starts will be at 7:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

There are 100 teams and 200 players competing in this year’s tournament, setting up nine flights. The flights will be determined after 36 holes of play, where the lowest eight scores and ties will advance to the top Masters flight. The remainder of the field will be broken up into flights of 7-12 teams.

The Olympic Flight features the teams with the highest scores after Thursday and Friday’s rounds. The flight will be scored using a combination of Saturday’s score and the lowest score from the first two days.

Following the conclusion of the final round on Saturday, there will be a dinner and awards presentation. Last year, Eric Walling and Brett Smith won the Masters flight with the lowest score of a 199. The pair is unable to defend their win this year, so the tournament could see a new winner amongst the new participants and the veteran golfers.

        Good luck to all!
