OXFORD — Fall festivities begin from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, October 7, at LaFayette Park in downtown Oxford. Enjoy Pumpkin carvings, a scarecrow contest, music, food trucks, a kid zone, vendors and more.
Oxtoberfest Committee Member and Vice President of Promote Oxford Now Jessica Henninge said, “We want to welcome fellow residents to celebrate with a beautiful autumn festival right at home, as well as our surrounding neighbors. We welcome them to join in on the fun right here in Oxford.”
She said, ““I love that we bring so much talent, craft, and artistry to our beautiful Lafayette Park that’s held memories for generations.”
She said almost all of the different moving parts of the event involved so many local members of the community coming together in one way or another.
Event Coordinator Sarah Smith said, “There will be pumpkin carvings by Ian McWeeney. He’s local resident and has been carving for over 10 years. He also teaches Carving classes and gives presentations at events throughout the county.
Smith said, “We’re so proud of this event. The numbers continue to increase due to the small town nostalgic atmosphere of Historic Oxford. The community makes Oxford a great place to live.”
The kid zone will be full of fun interactive games including a bounce house, corn pool, animal balloons, a bubble performer, and more.
The scarecrow contest registration will be on the day of the festival from 9 to 10 a.m. and removal is from 4 to 4:30 p.m. There will be three different categories; traditional, creative, and hometown pride. Also a few rules to abide by: Individuals or groups are eligible to enter, scarecrows must be able to sit or stand on their own, and keep it family friendly. Winners will receive a ribbon and gift card.
Event Coordinators Rhonda Conant and Kelly Stark helped with the many details of the festival and live music performers were booked thanks to the support of Nate Gross; who will also be performing at the festival and will certainly bring a groove to the day.
Oxfords own award winning, recording blues guitarist and singer/songwriter Nate Gross will deliver his brand of Blues Rock to the event. For years he has toured from east to west coast sharing his combination of Blues, Soul, Americana, Rock and Jazz.
Another award winning Syracuse favorite is Los Blancos. They've won best band, best blues band, and best R&B band amongst many more honors. Their vast array of musical style and Blues music will fill the airwaves with massive foot moving beats and Syracuse Rockabilly musicians Morris and The Hepcats will play Surf, Blues, and their Rockabilly versions of Classic Rock music.
Food Truck vendors will be available and include Ray Bros Bar-b-cue, Kandi's Kitchen, Cruz's Mexican Food and The Rolling Scones.
Additional events taking place in Oxford are St. Paul's Episcopal Church Apple Festival, the Oxford Memorial Library Carnival, AW5K Amelia's Voice walk/run and the Oxford Fire Department Display.
