Girls Soccer: Oxford drops to Marathon

MARATHON – The Oxford Blackhawks girls soccer team has been battling it out all season and they brought competitiveness into the first round of Class C sectionals. Unfortunately, they fell 3-2 on penalty kicks to Marathon, ending an improved 2023 season.
Oxford and Marathon were tied 1-1 that led to the game being decided in penalty kicks. Oxford’s Jocie Finch contributed in her final high school soccer game with a goal off an assist from eighth grader Ahnalee Kappauf.
“My girls played a great game and played hard until the final whistle. I could not ask for more of them. I am extremely proud of this group,” coach Rachel Seiler said. “They played hard all season and grew together as a team as the season went on. I am sad to lose senior Jocie Finch, but I am excited to see what the future holds for this group.”
The Blackhawks were led this season by freshman Kayla Knapp with 13 goals and junior Taegan Manwarren with 10 assists.
Great job Oxford and best of luck Jocie Finch.
