OXFORD – This week, Commerce Chenango would like to highlight The Stadium Sports Bar & Grill.
The Stadium, which was established in 2006, originally opened as a local sports bar which did not provide onsite prepared food until 2008. With the addition of food in 2008 and the frequent opportunities to host “Give Back Nights” for local organizations, The Stadium quickly evolved into Oxford’s hometown grill.
Equipped with 12 TVs, The Stadium is always displaying top sporting events. They yearly invest in the NFL Sunday Ticket, providing all NFL games every week during football season. The TV’s have streaming capability, with Manager Rebecca Walling fondly recalling streaming the Oxford Girl’s Varsity Basketball Championship game last year.
Walling is proud of how far The Stadium has come since its opening in 2006.
“We provide a friendly family atmosphere where all guests are welcome, quality food, and a wide variety of tap beer including many from local breweries,” said Walling.
Walling also said customers as the restaurant’s most important resource.
“We can’t thank our loyal customers enough for their continued support, we obviously rely on our customers, so we always try to go above and beyond to provide them with a comfortable environment to visit; serving amazing food with even better service,” she said.
Recently, The Stadium had the honor to participate in Binghamton’s Wing Fest hosted at Mirabito Stadium. They competed with over 20 other local establishments to see who would be crowned “The King of the Wing”.
The Stadium was crowned “The King of the Wing People’s Choice Champion” once again after being awarded the same title in 2022.
The Stadium was created and now owned by four restaurateur partners. Local owners Dave Shull (after whom The Stadium’s Famous “Shullsa” is named) and Mike Barone partner with two distant owners: Vincent Scileppi and Anthony Amendola. The Stadium’s daily operations are controlled and run by General Manager Rebecca Walling, Assistant Manager Jessica Shull, and tenured Kitchen Manager Nick Cole. Walling, Shull, and Cole have all been with the restaurant for over 15 years. They surround themselves with employees that add to the family feel. Although turnover is very rare, those interested in working there can apply at www.thestadium.biz and are welcome to stop in and talk about possible opportunities.
The Stadium has strived to serve the local community first and foremost, and not just with their Award-winning food. The Stadium partners with local organizations, sports teams and local school groups and provides them with a Give Back Night, a night to celebrate the participating organization. The Stadium offer these nights on Tuesdays or Wednesdays from 4 p.m.-10 p.m.
They invite the organization to participate and hand out flyers and speak with customers to explain how they are helping them on that evening just by eating at the restaurant. The Stadium then donates 20% of the total sales from this evening back to the organization. To schedule a Give Back Night, please contact the restaurant for available dates and planning.
On Mondays, The Stadium hosts Trivia Night from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., which Walling said are very popular. All ages are welcome as teams test their knowledge in a variety of categories creating an exciting and competitive environment for a chance to win weekly prizes.
On Thursday nights, The Stadium hosts the local Original Wing Night from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. The Stadium offers a discount to those who dine in and order their award-winning wings. Reservations are suggested, but not required, as this evening becomes quite busy on a weekly basis.
In the upcoming year, The Stadium is striving to continue to grow and hopefully add much needed building space. They have maxed out the allotted space for the volume of food that the restaurant is producing weekly. Currently, they are looking to expand their kitchen space to provide adequate upgraded equipment and an environment that will allow them some growth.
