Greene offense stifled in playoff loss to Trumansburg

ENDICOTT – Trumansburg was too big and too fast for the Greene Trojans Saturday afternoon at Union-Endicott High School.
The Blue Raiders beat Greene for the second time this season, and advanced to the Section IV 8-man football finals blanking the Trojans, 48-0.
“Trumansburg is a little bigger and a little stronger than us physically, and it showed,” said Greene coach Dave Gorton.
The Blue Raiders put their first points on the board less than 90 seconds in.
After forcing a Greene punt, T’burg executed a short touchdown drive after a long punt return.
Nik Nelson hit Derwin Good on a short swing pass. Good made a defender miss en route to a 15-yard score.
Greene failed to move the ball for a first down, but managed to hold T-burg to a punt as well.
However, following that forced punt, Greene committed the first of its four interceptions. Aidan Clarke picked off a Greene pass taking it into the Trojans red zone.
From there, it was the Chandler Wright show for the Blue Raiders.
Wright capped his team’s second TD drive from four yards out, the first of his four first-half touchdowns.
Greene did have an opportunity later in the quarter to score after forcing a Trumansburg turnover, but again came up short.
Wright had three second-quarter touchdown runs, the backbreaker a 60-yard jaunt on a fourth-and-three situation.
We just turned the ball over a few times, and put ourselves in a hole in our own territory,” Gorton said. “We had all sorts of weird things happening.”
Greene did maintain its long streak of playoff runs – it has not missed the playoffs since joining 8-man football – and extended its streak non-losing seasons to nine.
“We had a lot of guys coming in that hadn’t played football or played much, and they really grew through the season,” Gorton said. “I was pleased with the growth they showed. We had a couple tough losses early in the season, then we got better every week.”
Bill Dunlap led the Greene (5-4) offense with six catches for 72 yards.
