Oxford golfer advances to individual sectionals
OXFORD – For the first time in over a decade, an Oxford golfer has advanced to compete in individual sectionals.
Sophomore Bennett Paden will compete at the Mark Twain Golf Course in Elmira this spring in hopes of advancing to the NYS Championships.
Bennett had an outstanding sophomore season and lowered his over par average almost seven full strokes in order to qualify. In order to advance to the individual sectionals, a golfer must have an over par average of 5.5 or better. Bennett was able to qualify with a 5.25 over par average.
Bennett had a significant growth spurt from his freshman year to his sophomore year helping him add length off the tee, but it was his decision making that stood out the most. When Bennett made a mistake as a freshman, his frustration forced him into hurrying into another bad shot. After making a mistake this season, he would regroup and think about the shot before hitting it.
His confidence was sky high, and he was always eager to play against the MAC's best players. Oxford also advanced to team sectionals, which will be held in May at the college course in Delhi.
Congratulations Oxford and Bennett!
