Girls’ Basketball: Greene celebrates Coach Gorton’s 200th win, defeats Harpursville

GREENE – It was an exciting night at Greene high school as the Greene Trojans girls’ basketball team defeated Harpursville 69-21. This win was a milestone for head coach Dave Gorton as it was his 200th career win. Greene is also cruising along this season with an 8-1 record, which leads the MAC division II.
The Trojans excelled in the second and third quarters with posting 20 plus points in those minutes alone. Greene took a big 40-9 lead at halftime after a 26 point second quarter. Josie Dutcher led team efforts in those eight minutes with 11 of her total 20 points. Dutcher banked three three’s and made five-of-six free throws at the foul line. She averages 12.5 points per game through nine games.
Mia Yahner scored her 10 points all in the first half as Lyla Biefeldt knocked in three three’s for nine points.
Greene has a tough match-up ahead as they travel to Unatego on Wednesday at 7:15 p.m. It will be the first contest against one another since the 2023 MAC championship game, which Unatego won. Greene defeated the Spartans in the regular season before the title game.
