SHERBURNE – The Sherburne-Earlville girls’ basketball team hosted Herkimer in a CSC league division game on Thursday in their final home game of the regular season.
Prior to tip-off, S-E honored its five seniors. Congratulations to Alex Grzymkowski, Chesnee Miller, Abby Shaver, Hannah Todd-Rogers, and Hailey Ramey for all your hard-work and dedication to the program. S-E also had a DJ service that pumped up both teams and the full crowd in support of the home team.
Herkimer spoiled S-E’s special night with a 52-36 win, splitting the two-game set at 1-1. The Magicians had a strong start, posting 20 points before slowing down in the second and third quarters. With getting Herkimer to slow down, S-E was able to catch up at a steady pace and even tied the game late in the third quarter with a layup from Hannah Todd-Rogers with a 1:30 left. However, Herkimer held a one-point advantage with a made free-throw, entering the fourth quarter.
The final eight minutes was the deciding factor in this contest, where unfortunately S-E was outscored 23-8. The Magicians pumped up with multiple three’s from their leading senior and continued to play a tough defense, where they were quick to rebound the ball under the basket throughout the game.
S-E’s Alex Grzymkowski led the team with nine points as Alyse Brown provided eight points off the bench. Abby Shaver paced herself with six points with a strong first half and made good use of the backboard while being pressured on defense. Chesnee Miller finished with five points while Hannah Todd-Rogers was held to just two points as Herkimer knew to guard her well. Every senior scored at least two points as Hailey Ramey added in her share late in the game.
