Girls' Basketball: Greene tops B-G
BAINBRIDGE – After an intense meeting that went into overtime last week, the Greene Lady Trojans met up with the Bainbridge-Guilford Lady Bobcats on Friday, only in Bainbridge this time. However, the venue didn't matter as Greene swept the two-game series with a 37-20 win.
After a slow start by both teams, Greene went to work in the second quarter and built a 21-7 lead into halftime. The Trojans continued to hold B-G to two points in the third quarter, but had a hard time themselves with both defenses hard at work. B-G's best efforts were in the final eight minutes with outscoring Greene 12-9, but due to being limited early on, they couldn't turn the outcome around.
Mia Yahner paved the way for the Trojans with 12 points as Claire Flanagan followed with eight points, where she knocked in one of the team's only two three-pointers on the night. Abby Yahner had five points while Josie Dutcher was held to just four points in the win.
Marissa Mayo led the Bobcats with six points and hit two-three's. B-G's offensive efforts were also consistent at the foul line, making seven-of-13 free-throws. Tori Suda made three foul shots and finished with a total of four points. Peyton Umbra knocked in a three while Jaylin Henderson scored three points from the line. Johnna Henderson's efforts were shortened to just two free-throws in the loss.
Greene is well on their way of winning the MAC division II again with a 14-1 record and an undefeated divisional record (7-0). The Trojans head to Harpursville on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
B-G (8-8) hosts Oxford on Wednesday at 7:15 p.m.
