Winter Track: S-E competes at Class Championships

SYRACUSE – The Sherburne-Earlville indoor track team returned to Onondaga Community College to compete in the Section III, Class B Championships on Wednesday. The S-E boys finished eighth out of 10 teams with 20 points as the girls came in 11th place. Cazenovia won Class B titles for both the boys’ and girls’ events.
Boys:
The S-E boys were led by its top three seniors and freshman Braden Lewis. Aidan Camenga competed in a team-best three events. His top performance on the day was in both the 55 meter hurdles and in the triple jump, where he placed third. In the 55 meter hurdles, he ran a 9.08 while jumping 39 feet, eight inches in the triple jump. He finished fifth in the long jump with a jump of 19-1.
Fellow senior Michael Fetzko also competed in both the long and triple jumps. In the long jump, he jumped 17 feet, nine inches, which was good for seventh place. He jumped a ninth place finish in the triple jump (35-7).
Ryan Solloway ran 1:36.85 to come in fifth place for the 600 meters event. He also sped through the 300 meter dash with a time of 40.78 seconds for seventh place.
Freshman Braden Lewis continues to improve in his prominent events, where he earned a new personal best in the 1000 meter run. He finished fourth in the 1000 meters with a new best time of 2:55.06. He also threw 27 feet, five and a half inches in the weight-throw event, where he came in 11th place.
Girls:
Avery Solloway, Savanna Hook, and Marlie Thompson strived for the S-E girls. Solloway led the girls in her three events. She ran a seventh place finish in the 55 meter dash (8.10 seconds). She also jumped four feet, two inches in the high jump for fifth place while achieving a new best throw of 26-0.50 in the shot put, which was good for eighth place.
Hook and Thompson competed in one event each. Hook came in ninth in the 600 meter run with a time of 2:04.09 while Thompson finished 10th in the triple jump with a jump of 26 feet, 11 inches.
The Section III State Qualifiers will be held on Wednesday, February 14, starting at 4:30 p.m. back at OCC. Good luck S-E.
