Sheriff: Missing Preston man victim of ATV accident

PRESTON – Following an extensive search conducted by law enforcement and volunteers during the weekend, the Chenango County Sheriff's Office reported the body of a missing Preston man was discovered along Turner Street in the Town of Preston on Sunday.

On Sunday, Chenango County Patrol Lt. Jeffrey Barton said the office was saddened to announce that 38-year-old Nicholas W. Andrews, “was found deceased from injuries related to an ATV accident, in the Town of Preston area.”

Emergency officials retrieved the remains and a damaged ATV from a wooded embankment at just after 11 a.m Sunday, near Turner Creek.

The sheriff's office stated Andrews was reported missing on March 14. He was last seen leaving his residence at approximately 6 p.m. riding a white four wheeler along Turner Street. Police also reported Nicholas had suffered a previous traumatic brain injury, and had difficulty walking and being able to see well.

Chenango County Sheriff Ernest Cutting thanked rescuers and the public for their support and assistance during the search.

The Chenango County Sheriff's Office was assisted by New York State Forest Rangers, NY Search and Rescue Federation, the Oxford Fire Department, and community volunteers.
