CHENANGO COUNTY — It's that time again for spring cleaning, and not only for closets, junk drawers, and forgotten projects in the garage; spring cleaning is also outside, on the Chenango River Trails.

The Chenango County Environmental Management Council announced its third annual cleanup day, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., Saturday, April 27; with a rain date scheduled for May 11.

Volunteers will meet up at Weiler Park pavilion, located at 33 Borden Avenue to receive designated areas for trail clean up.

Chenango County Department of Planning and Development Director Shane Butler said, “The group will be cleaning up the Chenango River Trails, maintained by the Chenango Greenway Conservancy, from behind Bordentown Circle all the way down to the Hosbach bridge.”

“If anyone is interested in hosting other satellite clean-ups at publicly accessible sites, they are welcome to do so,” he said. “Just let us know and we’ll help advertise.”

“Keeping the litter off of the trails or from the rivers makes a more welcoming community and area to visit and also helps the environment,” said Butler. “In years past, we have found numerous tires, articles of clothing, shopping carts, and just regular garbage throughout the area.”
